If you have problems balancing your meat (a common issue with spit-roasting whole animals), then a counterweight will help. It gets attached to the end of the spit and is adjustable to make up for any uneven distribution of weight on your roast.

This size has a spit collar that will work on spits with up to 1" diameter or outside dimension (see the link to the sizing guide below). This is the heaviest counterweight available and is adjustable by sliding and securing the weight along the shaft. 

The full system will work to balance a load of up to 100 lbs.
