This tool is hand-forged from 1/2" round bar iron. For brooms, we recommend a shorter tool because there is no need to get away from the fire while using the broom. If you have a "raised" hearth (the firebox is higher than floor level) the shorter size usually works better. If you hearth is floor level, the 36" size might be a better choice.
